13 th Annual B.C. Food Systems Network Gathering
The time for the 13th Annual Gathering of the BC Food Systems Network is fast approaching! The gathering will take place July 7-10, 2011, in the community of 100 Mile House in the central interior region of the province. We are happy to say that the 100 Mile Lodge Conference Centre is offering a gracious venue in a picturesque rural setting.
In the spirit of resiliency, diversity, giving and sharing, the history of the venue carries stories of a "standing policy in the depression years to feed anyone who needed a meal if they were willing to do some of the work in exchange". There is much to be learned from previous generations who teach of ways to overcome the stress and uncertainty of not knowing where the next meal is going to come from.
Following the theme of Resiliency and Diversity, this year's gathering will be grounded in a sense of place that will inspire us to inquire into the attributes and processes that will increase the ability of diverse individuals, groups, and communities to overcome the stress and uncertainty associated with food insecurity.
The gathering committee is looking forward to hosting discussions and activities that will bring participants to a dynamic "learning edge" and promote healthy associations between the people, plants and animals in the bioregions that have recently formed within the network.
